180 Days of Boasting about God – Day 176

I have lived in the goodness of God!

As I prepared for my Sunday school class tomorrow, I felt the Holy Spirit instructing me to read the commentary. So, I did.

Luke 9:57-63 speaks of Jesus’ response to persons wanting to follow him. Honestly, I’ve read these stories before but this time was different.

The first man said he’d follow Jesus wholeheartedly. Jesus said that foxes have holes and birds have nest but the son of man has nowhere to lay his head.

For the first time, I’ve realised that I’ve never cautioned anyone like this. It’s important that we know that being a Christian (follower of Jesus) will not be comfortable. We won’t have a set place to rest and settle. This word still applies though most of us are not moving around physically to spread the gospel.

How does it apply?

At every stage of this journey, you’ll get uncomfortable. This normally signals a change of pace or season. You’ll be unsatisfied with where you are and your relationship with God. You’ll want more. You’ll always be in a position to shift.

There is no spiritual state that we can return to when we’re weary, we have to keep going.

As we keep going, we have no safe space (fox hole) to run back to. We’ll be more exposed to spiritual elements and danger.

However, know this, Jesus IS with you if you take this step. We don’t need holes/nests because he’ll be our resting place and shelter. We don’t need a safe haven because we’ll be dwelling in the secret place of the Most High. I know this because I’ve lived it.
