180 Days of Boasting about God – Day 176

I have lived in the goodness of God!

As I prepared for my Sunday school class tomorrow, I felt the Holy Spirit instructing me to read the commentary. So, I did.

Luke 9:57-63 speaks of Jesus’ response to persons wanting to follow him. Honestly, I’ve read these stories before but this time was different.

The first man said he’d follow Jesus wholeheartedly. Jesus said that foxes have holes and birds have nest but the son of man has nowhere to lay his head.

For the first time, I’ve realised that I’ve never cautioned anyone like this. It’s important that we know that being a Christian (follower of Jesus) will not be comfortable. We won’t have a set place to rest and settle. This word still applies though most of us are not moving around physically to spread the gospel.

How does it apply?

At every stage of this journey, you’ll get uncomfortable. This normally signals a change of pace or season. You’ll be unsatisfied with where you are and your relationship with God. You’ll want more. You’ll always be in a position to shift.

There is no spiritual state that we can return to when we’re weary, we have to keep going.

As we keep going, we have no safe space (fox hole) to run back to. We’ll be more exposed to spiritual elements and danger.

However, know this, Jesus IS with you if you take this step. We don’t need holes/nests because he’ll be our resting place and shelter. We don’t need a safe haven because we’ll be dwelling in the secret place of the Most High. I know this because I’ve lived it.

Spiritual Storm

Spiritual Storm is the title I gave to a dream I had on August 19, 2016

The dream started with me hearing someone say that a storm was on the way. I could see people hustling about to get things done before it approached. The place was dark and very windy. I don’t remember if it was I or someone else who asked the person if it was on the news and he said no. So the person was asked how he knows that a storm was coming since it wasn’t on the news. The person replied by saying that he was on a ladder fixing a roof and he looked up in the sky and realised the old fashioned way as flocks of birds were flying away heading in one direction.

Then, it was like I was at the side of my first home. I was standing at the doorway looking outside, it was raining, and my neighbour’s son was throwing cleaned/plucked chickens (whole and in parts) over the fence. They would fall on the ground and make a splash in the puddles. I wondered why he was throwing away good chickens that could be eaten but then I said to myself that maybe they are not good, but I was puzzled as to why he was throwing them into my yard. So I examined the chickens as they fell and saw that they were slightly frozen and good. So I told someone and we called the boy to ask him why he was throwing away good chickens when they could be cooked, especially since a storm was eminent.

The scene changed to us being in a room and about three other people were there. The boy was no longer my neighbour’s son but my church sister’s son. I was standing before him and I was asking him why he was throwing away the good chickens. He gave me some foolish answers. At that time, I went closer to him and said, “stop and think, think, why were you doing this?” His response started like the previous ones so I interrupted and said, “no, stop and think.” By this time, the other persons were standing close behind him. His mother was there and at times, she’d push herself in front of the boy as if to reprimand him but all it did was irritate him and make him more irate. Then the boy looked directly in my eyes and sensibly said, “stop it, just stop it.” Then I recognised that it was a demon speaking and the persons standing behind him held on to him as if to hold him back. I realised that the demon didn’t want the boy to stop and think about his actions or he’d be aware that he was doing foolishness. A wave ran through my body as it usually does when I interact with demons in my sleep and my body started to go numb and I opened my mouth to say Jesus but the word wouldn’t come out. At that point, I woke up from the dream.

As soon as I woke up, I started praying for an interpretation. And I received it a little by little as I asked God what each part meant.

The interpretation of the dream is as follows:

The storm is a spiritual storm. It’s a warning for Christians to look up and watch the signs of the time. If we aren’t watchful then we’ll be scurrying around trying to get ready, instead of already being ready. We need to be like the man on the ladder who didn’t wait to hear the news/media report that a storm was on the way, he noted that the birds were all flying away. Likewise, we Christians need to stop looking to this world to confirm that Christ is coming and look at the signs. Jesus spoke of war and rumours of war, diverse earthquakes, and diverse diseases coming to signal the beginning of the end. Do we not hear about, see, or even experience these things? That means the end has already begun, are we looking up?

The chicken is food. Food is very important to our survival. The throwing away of the chicken means that the storm will cause many good things to be thrown away like rubbish if people aren’t prepared for the effects. The effects can be emotional or mental. If we don’t arm ourselves with the armour of God, we will end up throwing away our relationship with the King of kings. We will walk into sin and give up on God if we aren’t prepared. The devil will play with our minds; demons are assigned to manipulate our thoughts, so that they get us in a mental state where we give up on God without even taking the time to think and ask ourselves if what we are leaving God for is worth it.

Christians, we can’t be idle or be playing around. A storm has no mercy on a house that has poor roofing structures, unprotected windows, and huge trees hanging over the house. The devil is walking around, seeking whom be may devour. He is likened to the thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

Rise up and do what the Lord has commanded you to do. Stop caring if people will laugh at you or think you’re crazy. Stop caring how many times people have heard the message before, have they heard it from you? I almost didn’t post this piece as I felt that people must be tired of hearing that Jesus will soon return and mock me but I don’t care, I have a decided to be obedient to the word God has given me and the constant promptings to write this blog. Just do what the lord your God has commanded you to do. Arise. Look up. A storm is coming.

So they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?” And He said: “Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He, ’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Therefore do not go after them. But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately.” Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” Then He spoke to them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
